Fat Transfer and Neck Lift Procedures performed by Dr. Ciano at Dr. Darm Aesthetic Medicine

3 weeks post ops. Fat Transfer and Necklift procedures. Results and patient recovery may vary.

Fat transfer and neck lift procedures performed by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Ciano at Dr. Darm Aesthetic Medicine in Portland, Oregon.

Necklift is a procedure to get rid of sagging neckline, performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Ciano. The neck is one of the first places where signs of age start to show. Age and weight loss may contribute to the skin on a person’s neck looking loose, sagging, and aged. Your neck skin appears to have lost its natural elasticity and sags, or if there is excess skin or fat that you wish to remove, there are a number of excellent solutions available, including neck lift surgery.

Fat makes an excellent soft tissue, filling material. Dr. Jerry Darm is pleased to announce the LipoFill™, the new and innovative procedure designed to restore a youthful contouring appearance to your face. Unlike temporary fillers, LipoFill™ uses your own body’s natural tissue to increase its volume, smoothing out wrinkles and lines. LipoFill™ is long lasting, convenient, and for a limited time you can get a LipoFill™ procedure for payments as lows as $84 per month.

Dr. Darm, Necklift Before and After Pictures. Results May Vary.

Necklift before and after pictures. Results may vary.

As people age, the effects of gravity, sun exposure, pollution, smoking and stresses of daily life can be seen in their necks. Deep creases form between the chin down to the lower neck; the jaw lines grow slack and jowly; and folds and fat deposits appear around the neck.

A necklift can’t stop this aging process but it can “set back the clock,” by improving the most visible signs of aging. This is accomplished by removing excess fat, tightening the underlying muscles, and then re-draping the skin. A necklift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a minilift, forehead lift, eyelid surgery, nose reshaping, fat grafting, etc.

The technique has evolved from simple tightening of the skin, to tightening and re-positioning of deeper structures like muscle and connective tissues, whereby the skin “comes along for the ride.”

Deep folds on the neck, sagging skin, and jowls may be present at any age. Candidates for necklift procedures can be as young as twenty and our oldest patient was a healthy eighty-four year old.

Aging does not stop with surgery but “turning back the clock” can delay its' appearance. The length of time, these improvements will last, depends on genetics, habits, and skin protection.

In your initial consultation, Dr. Ciano will evaluate your neck and jawline, including the skin and underlying muscle. It is important to discuss what goals you wish to achieve from surgery. Certain medical conditions may cause problems during or after surgery. Uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood clotting problems, or the tendency to form excessive scars are some examples. Be sure to tell Dr. Ciano if you smoke, take any drugs or medications, especially aspirin, or other drugs that affect clotting.

Meet Dr. Ciano.

Dr. Ciano will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery and to stop or avoid certain vitamins and medications. Carefully following these instructions will help surgery go smoothly. If you smoke, it’s especially helpful to stop at least a week or two before and after surgery, if possible. Smoking inhibits blood flow to the skin, and can interfere with the healing of your incision areas.

A necklift usually takes 2.5 hours under conscious sedation anesthesia although it can be longer if you’re having more than one procedure done. General anesthesia is not necessary. Incisions usually begins under the ear, then behind the ear into the hairline. A small incision will also be made under the chin.

In the vast majority of cases it is not necessary to use a general anesthesia. We use a conscious sedation ( a type of twilight sedation) whereby you are up and ready to go home after your procedure.

There usually isn’t significant discomfort after surgery. If there is, it can be lessened with the pain medication prescribed by Dr. Ciano. Severe or persistent pain or sudden swelling of your face should be reported to Dr. Ciano immediately. Some numbness of the skin is quite normal and it should disappear within a few weeks or months.

You will be instructed to keep your head elevated and decrease your activity level for a couple of days after surgery, to keep the swelling to a minimum.

Bandages will be removed after two days and showering is possible.

You should be up and about in a day or two, but plan on taking it easy for the first week after surgery. The risk of bleeding under the skin, requiring a return visit to the operating room to treat the hematoma (blood collection) is at the highest during the first week. Since there is little pain and boredom sets in, you must resist the temptation to be too active!

Dr. Ciano will give more specific guidelines for gradually resuming your normal activities. They’re likely to include these suggestions: avoid driving a car for 1 week and strenuous activity, including sex and heavy housework, for at least two weeks. Avoid steam baths and saunas for several months. Above all, get plenty of rest and allow your body to spend its energy on healing. At the beginning, your features may be distorted from the swelling and your facial movements may be slightly stiff. Some bruising may persist for two or three weeks, and you may tire easily.

By the third week, you’ll look and feel much better. Most patients are back to work within ten days to two weeks after surgery. Any bruising that remains may be covered by special camouflage makeup.

A brow or forehead lift is a procedure that corrects drooping brows, and improves the horizontal lines and deep wrinkles that can make a person appear angry, sad, or tired.

BROW LIFT / FOREHEAD LIFT

A brow or forehead lift is a procedure that corrects drooping brows, and improves the horizontal lines and deep wrinkles that can make a person appear angry, sad, or tired. In this procedure, the muscles and tissues that cause the furrowing and drooping are removed or altered. This allows the eyebrows to rise, the forehead skin to become smoother, and the frown lines to be minimized.

Types of Brow Lifting:

  • Complete Incision
  • Partial (temporal) Incision
  • Suspension (no incision in hair)

The Best Candidates for a Brow / Forehead Lift
A forehead lift can help people of any age who have developed furrows, deep wrinkles, or frown lines due to stress or muscle activity. Individuals with inherited conditions such as low, heavy brows or furrowed lines above the nose can achieve a more alert and refreshed look with this procedure.

A brow lift is often performed with a facelift to provide an overall smoother look to the face. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can also be performed at the same time as a forehead lift, especially if a patient has significant skin overhanging the upper eyelids. Sometimes patients, who believe that they need upper eyelid surgery, find that a forehead lift better meets their surgical goals.

Patients who are bald, have a receding hairline, or who have had previous upper-eyelid surgery may still be good candidates for a forehead lift. Dr. Ciano can alter the incision location or perform a more conservative operation, in these cases.

The Surgery
The forehead lift, for most patients, has a coronal incision. It follows a headphone-like pattern, starting at approximately ear level and runs across the top of the head and down the other side. The incision is usually made behind the hairline, so the scar will be concealed.

In mild cases of drooping brows, or in patients who want to avoid any scalp incisions, a new technique of suspending the brow through the upper eyelid incision (as in a blepharoplasty) can be used. This brow suspension procedure is less invasive, and may postpone the more involved surgeries.

Anesthesia
In the vast majority of cases it is not necessary to use a general anesthesia. We use a conscious sedation (a type of twilight sedation) whereby you are up and ready to go home after your procedure.

After Your Surgery
You may experience temporary discomfort around the incision; it can be controlled with prescription medication. You will need to keep your head elevated, for two to three days following surgery, to minimize swelling. While swelling may, also, affect the cheeks and eyes, it should begin to disappear within a week, and most patients will be able to drive short distances, and perform light activities at that time.

Dressings will be removed a day or two after surgery, and most stitches or clips will be removed within two weeks.

Getting Back to Normal
Although you should be up and about, in a day or two, plan on taking it easy for the first week after surgery. You should be able to shower and shampoo your hair after two days, or as soon as the dressing is removed. As the nerves heal, there may be some temporary numbness, followed by itching, on the top of the scalp. These sensations may take as long as six months to fully disappear.

Most patients are back to work or school in seven to ten days. Vigorous physical activity should be limited for several weeks, including jogging, bending, heavy housework, sex or any activity that increases blood pressure. Prolonged exposure to heat or sun should be avoided for several months.

Brachioplasty can remove the excess skin and fat deposits, leaving the upper arms with a more pleasing and youthful appearance.

Brachioplasty (arm lift surgery) can remove the excess skin and fat deposits, leaving the upper arms with a more pleasing and youthful appearance.

Excess skin and fat of the upper arm is most commonly seen following weight loss or from heredity. It is frequently worse with some skin types, excessive sun exposure, smoking, etc. For some individuals, clothing styles which avoid bare skin of the upper arms are the only choices. If the problem is excessive fat deposits, laser lipolysis may be the best treatment, but loose skin correction requires surgery.

Brachioplasty (surgical arm lift) removes this skin and accompanying fat of the upper arm. Under “twilight” anesthesia, the procedure is completed in about 2 hours.
Following recovery, the patient returns home. Pain is minimal, it is more of a tight bruised feeling instead. The incision is hidden on the inside of the arm and its appearance improves over time. Minimal activity over the first week is important, but by 2 weeks, most patients have returned to normal daily activities.
