LipoLift is the trademarked name of Dr. Darm’s signature laser-assisted liposuction procedure (laser lipolysis) that removes fat from the body. This minimally-invasive surgical procedure is a popular body sculpting solution that “melts” fat with less pain, less downtime, and consistently favorable results. The laser is slipped thru a very small hole in the skin and passed back and forth slowly dissolving fat and fat cells. The melted fat is then gently sucked out through a small cannula. One to two liters of fat can be removed during the procedure. Treatment areas include the abdomen, flanks, arms, neck, and thighs.

Dr. Darm, Arm Lift Surgery at Aesthetic Medicine in Portland, Oregon
Arm lift (Brachioplasty)
Excess skin and fat of the upper arm is most commonly seen following weight loss or from heredity. It is frequently worse with some skin types, excessive sun exposure, smoking, etc. For some individuals, clothing styles which avoid bare skin of the upper arms are the only choices. If the problem is excessive fat deposits, lipolysis may be the best treatment, but loose skin correction requires surgery.
Brachioplasty ( surgical arm lift) removes this skin and accompanying fat of the upper arm. Under “twilight” anesthesia, the procedure is completed in about 2 hours.
Following recovery, the patient returns home. Pain is minimal, it is more of a tight bruised feeling instead. The incision is hidden on the inside of the arm and its appearance improves over time. Minimal activity over the first week is important, but by 2 weeks, most patients have returned to normal daily activities.
SUMMER SPECIAL! SAVE 20% OFF FIRST AREA, 50% OFF SECOND AREA! LIMITED TIME OFFER ONLY. SPECIALS CANNOT BE COMBINED, OTHER RESTRICTIONS APPLY. FINANCING AVAILABLE. CONTACT US FOR MORE DETAILS.
PLANNING YOUR SURGERY
In your initial consultation, Dr. Ciano will evaluate your arms, including the skin and underlying muscle. It is important to discuss what goals you wish to achieve from surgery.
Certain medical conditions may cause problems during or after surgery. Uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood clotting problems, or the tendency to form excessive scars are some examples. Be sure to tell Dr. Ciano if you smoke, take any drugs or medications, especially aspirin, or other drugs that affect clotting.
PREPARING FOR YOUR SURGERY
Dr. Ciano will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery and to stop or avoid certain vitamins and medications. Carefully following these instructions will help surgery go smoothly. If you smoke, it’s especially helpful to stop at least a week or two before and after surgery, if possible. Smoking inhibits blood flow to the skin, and can interfere with the healing of your incision areas.
THE SURGERY
A Brachioplasty usually takes 2 hours under conscious sedation anesthesia although it can be longer if you’re having more than one procedure done. General anesthesia is not necessary. Incisions usually begins under the axillary (armpit), then extends under the arm to the elbow.
ANESTHESIA
In the vast majority of cases it is not necessary to use a general anesthesia. We use a conscious sedation ( a type of twilight sedation) whereby you are up and ready to go home after your procedure.
AFTER YOUR SURGERY
There usually isn’t significant discomfort after surgery. If there is, it can be lessened with the pain medication prescribed by Dr. Ciano. Severe or persistent pain or sudden swelling of your face should be reported to Dr. Ciano immediately. Some numbness of the skin is quite normal and it should disappear within a few weeks or months.
You will be instructed to keep your arms elevated and decrease your activity level for a couple of days after surgery, to keep the swelling to a minimum.
Bandages will be removed after two days and showering is possible.
GETTING BACK TO NORMAL
You should be up and about in a day or two, but plan on taking it easy for the first week after surgery. The risk of bleeding under the skin, requiring a return visit to the operating room to treat the hematoma (blood collection) is at the highest during the first week. Since there is little pain and boredom sets in, you must resist the temptation to be too active!
Dr. Ciano will give more specific guidelines for gradually resuming your normal activities. They’re likely to include these suggestions: avoid driving a car for 1 week and strenuous activity, including sex and heavy housework, for at least two weeks. Avoid steam baths and saunas for several months. Above all, get plenty of rest and allow your body to spend its energy on healing.
At the beginning, the incision area may be distorted from the swelling. Some bruising may persist for two or three weeks, and you may tire easily. By the third week, you’ll look and feel much better. Most patients are back to work within ten days to two weeks after surgery.

Erase the spider veins with Sclerotherapy
Smaller veins in the legs called spider veins can be treated by injecting them with a "sclerosing" solution which causes them to collapse or by treating them with laser therapy. The veins are then gradually absorbed and disappear.

Dr. Darm, New Year's Resolution
Many of us have losing weight as one of our new year's resolutions. Here with a solution that really works, Dr. Darm along with Patsy Lynn.
Patsy Lynn let's talk about you first. You've been telling folks that you lost 112 lbs.
"Actually, as of last Monday's weigh, it's a 118 lbs." she answered.
Wow! Fantastic! So how did you managed to do that? That's a lot!
"Well, I found out about Dr. Darm's program and it turns out it's pretty close to where I live which was very convenient. I went to check it out and the office manager explains the program to me and I was just at the point in my life where I was ready to get healthy. I was very unhappy on how I look and how I felt." Patsy answered back.
Looking at the before and after. You look like a whole new person.
"Yes I feel like a whole new person." she said.
I assume you've tried other things before it.
"I did. I tried every other program and diet out there. But the support of this clinic, the nutritionist, the medical supervision knowing that I was gonna have my blood levels check, I just thought that this was the way to go." she added."
Dr. Darm tell us how this program works and there are options for everyone, right?
"This is medically supervised and the reason that it works so well...the average person loses 40 t0 60 lbs. Patsy's done so much better she's such a great patient but we do liquid fasting program and it's high in protein low in fat, low in carbs, and it's the Atkins principle and that is why the appetite disorder disappears and people lose so much weight. We use medical suppressant appetites as well if needed and of course it's medically supervised with the dietitians and the nutritionist will meet weekly with our patients to educate them. So it's really complete and totally medically supervised weight loss program."
We have met a lot people who have lost weight and then gained it all back because it haven't changed lifestyle or they have missed something. How do you cover that for people? Is that through the education?
"It is through the education. The weekly classes with the dietitians are extremely helpful. Support within the rest of the group, and exercise is encourage. And I exercise regularly now."
Did you exercise at the start?
"It was very difficult to get into exercising. I hated it. But I know it was important and I just made myself try and do it and made myself do it and now I exercise 5 to 6 times a week at least."
The way you feel now, when you see yourself were you surprise?
"I am surprise every time I walk by store friend or look into the mirror. I am joyous! That's what it is. I have more energy than I think I ever had."
Patsy Lynn you look great, congratulations again!
